LCD - Liquid Crystal Display (A projector technology used to
produce the image)
DLP - Digital Light Processing (A projector technology used to
produce the image)
LCOS - Liquid Crystal On Silicon (A projector technology used
to produce the image)
RGB - Red, Green & Blue, the three primary colours are mixed
to produce other colours
PAL - Phase Alternating Line - Broadcast technology used in Western
Europe
NTSC - National TV Standards Committee - Broadcast technology
used in USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea
SECAM - SEquential Couleur Avec Memoire, (trans: Sequential Color
with Memory) - Broadcast technology used in France & Russia,
though now mostly replaced by PAL
NB: The above broadcast technologies use different frame rates
& line rates to produce an image on a TV and associated equipment.
Most modern projectors will function with at least PAL & NTSC
inputs although other hardware is often limited by geographic
zoning.
KEYSTONE - Distortion caused by projecting from above / below
/ to the side of optimal projector placement, the image will go
trapezoid instead of rectangular.
RESOLUTION: Image size in
pixels, generally equivalent to a computer monitor.
PIXEL: The smallest unit of display on a screen or projector
VGA (Video Graphics Array) - 640 x 480 pixels
SVGA (Super Video Graphics Array) - 800 x 600 pixels
XGA (Extended Graphics Array) - 1024 x 768 pixels
SXGA (Super Extended Graphics Array) - 1280 x 1024 pixels
UXGA (Ultra Extended Graphics Array) - 1600 x 1200 pixels
WXGA (Wide Extended Graphics Array) - 1366 x 768 pixels (* widescreen
format)
WUXGA (Wide Ultra Extended Graphics Array) - 1920 x 1200 pixels
(* widescreen format)
REAR PROJECTION: The projector is placed behind the screen and
must show a mirror image to ensure text reads correctly ie. not
backwards. NB. Requires a rear projection screen!
FRONT PROJECTION: The projector is placed in front of the screen.
RCA Connector - Standard phono plug / socket
BNC (Baby Neill-Concelman ) - A locking professional composite
video connector (No audio).
VGA / 15 pin D-sub - A video connector as used by computer monitors
(PC only)
SCART - Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorécepteurs
et Téléviseurs - 21 pin video & audio connector
